My Feathers

My feather creations have meaning. Some people believe our culture has been lost but it is not. It still rests within us, only needing awakening. We must search for it.
Each feather has a story or legend, if you will. Attached to the item is a white tag with a leather strap with beads and, usually, a whitefeather. A story about the feather's creation is printed on the tag. Let's take a look at the creation of my "Dream Feather". And so the story goes...Dream feathers are attached to dream catchers. Early in the twentieth century, the Ojibway people hung dream catchers made of bent willow and sinew webbing from their infants' cradleboards. Dreams were believed to be very important. They came from a place called the spirit world. When the dream catcher was hung on the cradleboard all dreams had to pass through it. Bad dreams were trapped in its webbing, but good dreams drifted gently down to the sleeping child. May you have peaceful, happy dreams.
